it's the movies that have really been running things ... ever since they were invented. they show you what to do, how to do it, when to do it, how to feel about it, and how to look how you feel about it. --andy warhol

  1. Les Vampires was an interesting film. I liked the plot line in the story. These days we take different story lines for granted because we’re used to seeing the same things over and over again. In the earlier times of the development of film, narratives weren’t even a concept yet, so for a film to encompass a story about vampires is a remarkable thing. People were scared of just seeing a train come at them or a robber pointing a gun at the screen, so I could only imagine how terrified people were when they saw a film about a vampire sneaking in and out of rooms, escaping from jail and never being caught. Then, this film contained multiple stories. This had to be a phenomenal during those times. These concepts lead to our modern day notion of sequels.
I was able to watch the first part as well and it was entertaining. I like the whole suspense of trying to figure out who the vampire was. I thought it was the guard at the house but of course I turned out to be wrong. As far as the fourth part – the Spectre- it was also appealing. I was caught off guard when it was disclosed that the lady was impersonating some other lady. I didn’t catch that switch until the end of that section. I didn’t like how it was disclosed that the guest who checked in the hotel at the beginning was also a vampire. I know the two main vampires wanted to rob him but it wasn’t necessary for the guest to be a vampire. I guess it just bothered me a bit. I enjoyed the ending as well. Most films end in this perfect happy ending but I was actually glad the two main vampires escaped. I wasn’t sure who had escaped with the money because the guest had confessed to finding the voucher when he found the dead body by the train tracks but it never showed if he actually went and picked up the money. I know he dressed up as the dead man but I wasn’t sure if he had actually gone and picked up the money. At times the film was just unbelievable like when the two main vampires followed the old man on the train and killed him by throwing him off the train. I know someone had to see or at least hear what they were up to. Other than that, the film was amusing.
